Teaching An Old Dog New Tricks

I've been as close to a photographic purist as you can get for all of my over 45 years as a photographer. Now I'm faced with the reality that in order to compete in the field I need to adapt (to some extent) to the reality that photography has become a computer art as opposed to a photographic art.

At nearly 70 years of age change isn't something I readily adapt to. Photoshop, Lightroom, etc. are foreign. As I attempt to learn the basics of these programs I become more aware that rules of photography such as composition, f-stops, shutter speed and light are no longer relevant. EVERYTHING we needed to do in the camera or darkroom is now done in a computer. In fact much of it can be done on a cell phone.

In a couple weeks I will be embarking on a trip with the intent to increase my fine art images. I will attempt to stay as close to my convictions as a photographer with limited post processing as possible.

I invite everyone to visit me at richard-redman.pixels.com to follow me on my trip.
